Bookmarking Demon

Bookmarking Demon is a piece of software that automates the submission of links to social bookmarking directories.

It is not some blackhat method of increasing search results, but is a well crafted tool that is designed to tag and bookmark webpages in an almost mechanical way. There have been some reports of misuse regarding Bookmarking Demon. Basically, it has the ability to submit and tag to so many directories with such speed, that some users have bombarded the tagging sites.

This results in the accounts getting banned, so it must be considered, to quote a popular film, “With great power comes great responsibility”.

Bookmarking Demon has two modes, one for beginners and one for the experts.

The beginners mode limits the programs usage to the creation of accounts on social tagging sites and also to the actual bookmarking itself. Expert mode adds in a raft of features, including site pinging and a randomization mechanism.

Bookmarking Demon makes what should be a very time consuming process very easy indeed. It has the ability to post bookmarks to 100 of the web’s social bookmark sites, so if you can think of 10 sites you post to, it has another 90 more that you haven’t. This adds up to an effective collection of backlinks to your site.

By simplifying the account creation process, along with the management of multiple accounts across multiple sites, the software starts to look and act like the iTunes of the bookmarking world. Further sites can even be added to the system, should your site not be contained already. However, the site in question must have been built using the Pligg or Scuttle content systems. If you know what this means, then that’s OK, and if you don’t, then it is not important. Pligg and Scuttle are just pieces of software that some websites are built upon.

The feature that we really liked was the RSS feed camouflage. This allows your site to be bookmarked within a list of feeds that will be pulled off a website of your choosing. When your account is examined at whatever social bookmarking site you happen to use, your site will be mixed in with other popular stories from whatever feeds are appropriate for you.

This does two things really:

  1. Your account will look more natural, instead of just a promotion tool
  2. If people are following your content and you post from good feeds, they are more likely to click on the sites you want to promote

Bookmarking Demon has developed into an excellent, highly efficient and time saving piece of software. Using it has taken hours out of submitting to social tagging sites, and I can only see software such as this gaining more prominence in the internet world.

With version 5 of this incredible software on the horizon and its constant updates to get around anti-automation measures, it really is a no-brainer. No wonder they wouldn’t let us pitch Social Submitter against it!
